YDNPA Planning Portal
The council is formally consulted about all planning applications affecting Buckden parish and, where appropriate , will submit a response to the local planning authority - The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority.
Planning applications are discussed at the regular council meetings.
Details of planning applications may be found on the YDNPA Planning Portal
Repairs to culvert at southern end of Buckden
The highways in the parish are controlled and maintained by North Yorkshire Council (NYC). While Buckden PC does not have direct responsibility for the roads, there is regular communication between ourselves and NY Highways about potholes and other repairs, flooding, drainage, and gritting.
Residents should raise any concerns regarding roads with the clerk, who will pass them on to council members for discussion and where appropriate to NY Highways.
Details of upcoming roadworks can be viewed on the One Network live map.
The new village signs
The council has initiated a series of improvements including provision of a generator for emergency use, the clearing of paths (with the help of the NT), provision of six grit bins around the parish, restoration of roadside markers, and clearing of verges and overhanging bushes. A programme of improvements to signage in the village is ongoing with new signs installed at the north and south of the village and improved signing of car parking. Plans are underway to de-clutter the signage on the village green, and also to restore benches.
Defibrillator at the Institute
The parish council has obtained three defibrillators for public use; these are sited around the parish. One at Buckden Village Institute, one at Beckermonds and one in Oughtershaw. The council is responsible for providing batteries and pads for these, and is assisted by the local first responders who ensure the defibs are operational. The local Community Responders have delivered training to more than 30 local residents on the use of the defibs.
The village bonfire
The council is involved in a range of other activities and projects. The council organises and pays for the maintenance of village greens within the parish. We also distribute relevant communications to parishioners from a range of organisations locally - these include NYC, YDNPA and the NT. A significant piece of work is continuing to clarify ownership and registration of parish land. The council also organises the village bonfire, which is held on 5th November every year
The Parish Council welcomes the particpation of residents and local organisations in projects to improve the Parish. Recent examples of this include:
The refurbishment of road-side markers where five parishoners formed a working party to strip and repaint the black and white roadside markers.
The new village signs where a number of local organisations including Buckden Village Institute, Greystones, Upper Wharfedale Bus, The National Trust and Playground TV, as well as NYC all contributed to the cost of the project.
